PORT BNC / 1 X AUI MULTIPORT REPEATER
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION :
The VES 8046 provides four Thinnet ports. A further AUI connector allows connection, via a transceiver, to thick wire (10BASE5), Thin Wire (10BASE2), UTP (10BASET) or fibre optic (FOIRL).
Local management is provided on the front panel to provide an eight channel
display of link status plus AUI status. The link display is: , Port
activity , Port Partition status
In addition ports can be forced into partition mode to disable unused or problem
links.
The VES 8046 provides a repeater function and conforms to the requirements
of IEEE 802.3 repeaters:
Fragment extension,
Preamble
reconstitution
Partition recovery
on segment fault correction
Data
retiming
Auto – partitioning
on segment fault.
Upto 12 VES 8046’s can be connected together by an external cable bus, to make
a forty eight port hub which only has a repeater count of one. Other of the
VES 8040 series multiport repeaters can be combined with the VES 8046 on the
bus e.g. VES 8040 8 port UTP Hub & VES 8044 Thinnet 8 port repeater.
Each unit is allocated an address set up by the panel switches. This and all other status information is held in non volatile store.
